Michael Sean Curtis Injured and Arrested for DUI Crash on 2300 Block of Douglas Avenue
Bellingham, WA (August 14, 2020) – On Tuesday, 36-year-old Michael Sean Curtis crashed his car into an apartment building on 2300 block of Douglas Avenue.
The incident happened at about 11:18 p.m. on August 11.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities learned the suspect driver had already fled the scene, Lt. Claudia Murphy said. Witnesses described Curtis and the officers located him a short distance away.
Murphy added that Curtis allegedly attempted to enter a stranger’s apartment to avoid being caught. He also told the authorities he was not the driver they were looking for. From there, the suspect began insulting the officers with derogatory statements. Officers arrested Curtis after developing probable cause for DUI, Murphy said.
While they were on the way to the car, Curtis allegedly poked at an officer walking up a set of stairs behind him. Murphy described Curtis’ action as an attempted “body check.”
He missed the officer and fell to the ground. Curtis sustained a minor injury in his chin.
This interaction convinced the officers to carry him to their car. Murphy said the Bellingham Police Department arrested Curtis on suspicion of DUI, hit and run unattended, resisting arrest and third-degree assault.
