Michael Gomez-Filippi Hospitalized Following Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Euclid Avenue at West C Street
UPLAND, CA (December 14, 2018) – A 29-year-old pedestrian crossing Euclid Avenue at West C Street was struck and severely injured by a hit-and-run driver Sunday morning.
The crash unfolded around 1:30 a.m. when Michael Angelo Gomez-Filippi was walking in a marked crosswalk, devoid of any traffic lights, with some friends following a trip to a local bar.
According to Stephany Wilson, who was walking just ahead of Gomez-Filippi, a vehicle failed to yield to Gomez-Filippi and struck him, catapulting him 45 feet ahead and causing him several broken bones, a dislocated shoulder, a lacerated kidney and cuts and bruises among other injuries.
The driver involved, who was said to be operating a dark, four-door vehicle – perhaps a Kia – inferring from a surveillance footage, fled the scene, leaving only remnants of the headlight at the site.
A GoFundMe page was created to help raise money for Gomez-Filippi’s medical costs.
According to reports, the 29-year-old works for Amazon and enjoys computer programming, rock climbing and hiking — activities he won’t be able to do until he makes a full recovery.
Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating the driver involved in this crash.
