DUI Driver Arrested Following Bremerton Collision
BREMERTON, WA (March 26, 2019) – An paramedic took a trip to the hospital Thursday after an alleged DUI driver crashed on 11th Street near Roosevelt Avenue.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. when witnesses informed police officers about a possible drunk driver along 11th Street. When officers responded, they were unable to spot the vehicle until a few minutes later when an updated location on the driver’s whereabouts came in.
Near Roosevelt Avenue, officers found an elderly woman who had reportedly experienced a medical issue. Upon hearing this, police called an ambulance to the scene to tend to the woman. However, as medics pulled out a gurney, a Honda nearby accelerated eastbound on 11th Street.
Predicting an imminent crash, the officer warned everyone nearby.
The oncoming Honda struck the officer’s patrol vehicle, pushing it more than 15 feet ahead while pinning the gurney between the patrol car and the woman’s vehicle.
Although two firefighters dove for their safety, an ambulance worker was struck by the gurney. According to news reports, paramedics brought the victim to a Bremerton hospital for evaluation.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old male driver of the Honda demonstrated signs of impairment, which subsequently led to his arrest. The woman who suffered a medical issue was released shortly after.
