Mayor James Butts Jr. Involved in Injury Collision With Police Sergeant at Exposition Boulevard and Pardee Way
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 1, 2019) – An officer suffered serious injuries Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash, involving the Inglewood mayor, at Exposition Boulevard and Pardee Way.
According to reports, the incident happened around 8:45 a.m. near the USC campus.
Police say a black SUV – reportedly carrying Inglewood Mayor James Butts Jr. – attempted a turn against a possible red light and was hit by another car.
As a result of the impact, the SUV spun out and collided with a stationary motorcycle and Los Angeles police sergeant near a water fountain.
Witnesses rushed to the sergeant who appeared seriously injured. Fortunately, no one else sustained any injuries, say reports.
The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that one of the cars involved was registered to the city of Inglewood. Butts was reportedly inside the SUV, but it is uncertain whether he’d been driving the car.
As far as the officer, sources say the sergeant suffered broken bones and appears to be in stable condition.
The liabilities and circumstances of this crash are still in under investigation by authorities.
Because traffic lights and road signs are designed to keep traffic flowing and drivers safe, it’s crucial that we abide by them. Slow down at red and yellow lights and make full stops at stop signs. Always ensure the roads are clear before making your next move to avoid car accidents.
