Matthew Mercier in Custody Following DUI Fontana Accident
FONTANA, CA (March 12, 2019) – Police arrested an alleged DUI driver who crashed into three motorcyclists on Arrow Route near Cottonwood Avenue Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place around 4:15 p.m. when 31-year-old Matthew Mercier lost control of his 2017 Toyota Camry. Subsequently, the Camry went through the intersection at Cottonwood Avenue and struck a concrete curb before veering into westbound traffic. There, three motorcyclists – two of whom are ages 23 and one 24 – collided with the Camry.
As a result of the crash, paramedics brought all three patients to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton. One 23-year-old suffered major injuries, according to a report, while the 24-year-old suffered moderate injuries and the other 23-year-old sustained minor injuries.
Mercier, of Rancho Cucamonga, received medical attention at Montclair Hospital Medical Center for minor injuries. Upon his treatment, police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
