Martin Ponce Involved in Deadly Pedestrian Crash on 80 Freeway Near Davis Street

 
VACAVILLE, CA (February 14, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed early Wednesday when he was struck by a big rig driver on the 80 Freeway near Davis Street.
 
The fatal incident unfolded around 6:50 a.m. during severe rainy weather.
 
Martin Ponce was operating a truck-trailer combination on the eastbound freeway when he spotted a pedestrian walking in the lane ahead. California Highway Patrol officers said the 54-year-old Daly City driver was unable to avoid the impending crash and struck the man.
 
The pedestrian was killed in the accident and a traffic alert was issued around 7:15 a.m. so authorities could investigate the scene.
