Mark Hutchinson Killed, Shayne Wrede Arrested in Caspar Car Accident
Caspar, CA (December 27, 2020) – On Thursday, 48-year-old Mark Hutchinson of Willits died, while police arrested 35-Year-Old Shayne Wrede of Bragg in a vehicle crash on Caspar Road.
The fatal crash happened after 5:40 a.m. in the 15000 block area near the Pacifica Drive intersection in Caspar.
When CHP arrived, they found out that the incident involved a 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck driven by Wrede and a 1994 Honda 650 motorcycle driven by Hutchinson.
The authorities pronounced Hutchinson dead at the crash scene.
The Fatal Accident Aftermath
Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputy also responded to the scene. They learned Wrede who was also on County Parole, and was a victim of a shooting earlier that morning.
Consequently, Fort Bragg Police Department Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex on South Street in Fort Bragg. There, they found evidence consistent with a shooting.
Apparently, both Hutchinson and Wrede were involved in an approximate 4.5-mile vehicle chase after the shooting.
Their vehicles raced at a speed of at least 90 MPH through the city of Fort Bragg and through the unincorporated southern portion of Fort Bragg.
The race continued south onto Caspar Road where the succeeding crash occurred which caused Hutchinson’s death.
The Preliminary Investigation
Investigators with CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) stationed in Redding responded to determine the circumstances related to the incident.
Moreover, after scene investigation, statements from eyewitnesses, and reviewing surveillance video associated with the shooting and vehicle chase, Sheriff’s Detectives developed probable cause to believe Wrede intentionally caused the crash by striking Hutchinson’s motorcycle with his 2003 Chevrolet pick-up truck at a fast of speed on Caspar Road.
Police arrested Wrede for 187 PC (Murder) and Violation of Post Release Community Supervision (3455 PC).
Then, they booked Wrede into the Mendocino County Jail where he was to be held in lieu of $500,000.00 bail.
Meanwhile, Sheriff’s Detectives continue to investigate and ask for the public’s help.
Similarly, Sheriff’s Detectives request anyone with information related to a shooting incident on South Street in Fort Bragg and a vehicle chase involving a motorcycle and dark-colored pick-up truck. Or, if anyone has details on the reported crash on Caspar Road to call the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Tip-Line at 707-234-2100.
Similarly, residences or businesses with surveillance video facing US Highway 1 between Walnut Street continuing south to Caspar Road are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
