Mark Garcia and Nicole Rieg Hospitalized Following Vallecito Accident on Highway 4

 
VALLECITO, CA (November 5, 2020) – On Friday night, Mark Garcia and Nicole Rieg suffered injuries in a head-on crash on Highway 4.
 
CHP officials revealed that the DUI-related crash occurred at around 7:30 p.m.
 
It happened on Highway 4 just east of Batten Road in the Vallecito area of Calaveras County.
 
Reports said that for unknown reasons, 55-year-old Mark Garcia of Columbia let his 2002 Honda Accord drift across the centerline. This initial accident happened on Highway 4 and into the eastbound traffic lane.
 
Afterward, Garcia crashed head-on with 49-year-old Nicole Rieg of Discovery Bay, who drove a 2011 Ford Fusion.
 
As a result, Mark Garcia and Nicole Rieg both suffered major injuries. Moreover, emergency personnel extricated them from the wreckage.
 
The authorities clarified that the drivers wore seatbelts during the Vallecito crash.
 
Meanwhile, separate helicopters transported Mark Garcia and Nicole Rieg to Modesto Area hospitals.
 
Furthermore, the incident shut down Highway 4 for 90 minutes.
 
Consequently, authorities arrested Mark Garcia for felony DUI causing injuries. However, they later released him to the hospital for medical care.
 
Indeed, the authorities believe that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash.
