Mario Gomez Killed in Bicycle Collision With SUV at Heil Avenue and Gothard Street
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (December 10, 2019)—An Anaheim man lost his life Friday morning following a bicycle collision with an SUV at Heil Avenue and Gothard Street.
Mario Gomez has been identified as the 57-year-old Anaheim man whose life was cut short after the 6:30 a.m. accident.
Gomez, who authorities say was not wearing a helmet, had been riding on the wrong side of the road when his bicycle collided with a 2003 Ford Expedition.
Due to the brute impact, Gomez suffered major trauma, urging paramedics to transport him to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Gomez received the second pronouncement of brain death, per the Huntington Beach Police Department.
The 34-year-old Huntington Beach man piloting the Ford SUV escaped harm and stayed at the crash site for police questioning.
However, because details are unclear, an investigation remains. Those who’d like to help authorities piece together this crash should call police Investigator Adam Turner at (714) 536-5670 or Investigator Daniel Kim at (714) 536-5666.
