Fatal Collision in Front of the Hacienda Mexican Grill Results in Injuries
Salinas, CA (May 29, 2023) – On Saturday, a 33-year-old passenger, Maria Viurquez-Benavidez of Salinas, died in a North Davis Road DUI collision.
The fatal collision took place at about 9:44 p.m., in front of the Hacienda Mexican Grill.
Investigating officers said a 16-year-old male drunk driver was driving a silver BMW with a 31-year-old adult passenger.
The teenage driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into oncoming traffic colliding head-on with a white Dodge Journey.
Maria Viurquez-Benavidez, the passenger died while the 44-year-old Dodge driver was taken to Natividad Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The responding medical team also rushed the juvenile driver and his passenger to the same hospital with both of them suffering from life-threatening injuries.
Police said that the BMW driver’s blood alcohol limit was twice the legal limit.
