Maria Lopez Ruiz and Tais Arlyn Bernal Dead in Harbor (110) Freeway Accident
LOS ANGELES, CA (November 24, 2020) – On Monday morning, Luis Quinonez, Tais Bernal, and Maria Lopez Ruiz died, while two more sustained injuries in a car crash on the 110 Freeway.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball, authorities received the report at around 12:14 a.m.
Reports revealed that a gray 2009 Nissan Altima traveled at about 70 mph. Then, it veered towards the right side of the road into the attenuator barrels within the gore point that is supposed to keep vehicles from going the wrong way.
CHP said that first responder found two people ejected from the vehicle due to the crash. Reports say heavy fog also factored into the crash.
As a result, the driver, Luis Quinonez, and the two passengers, 19-year-old Tais Bernal of Norwalk and a 17-year-old girl, died, according to CHP Officer K. Martinez.
Paramedics rushed three people to a trauma center after sustaining critical injuries, Los Angeles Fire Department’s Nicholas Prange said.
Indeed, the third death included one of those individuals, who later died while undergoing treatment.
At around 12:33 a.m., a SigAlert was issued for the southbound Harbor Freeway and both eastbound and westbound Glenn Anderson Freeway. The attenuators were expected to be repaired by Caltrans.
All roads were reopened by 4:13 a.m.
During this tragic time, we would like to send our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of Luis Daniel Quinonez, Maria Lopez Ruiz, and Tais Bernal.
