Paso Robles Woman Dies, Maria Arayza Arrested in DUI Crash Near Alapay Way
San Luis Obispo, CA (December 22, 2020) – On Monday, 35-year-old Maria Arayza from Los Angeles was arrested in a Fatal DUI crash near Alapay Way.
The fatal ATV crash happened before 4 a.m. near Harmony wherein a Paso Robles woman died.
Apparently, the woman was among four campers on the ATV traveling southbound away from the camp.
Authorities said the ATV went over a steep cliff and landed on its wheels in the water near the shoreline.
Arayza and two other passengers from Long Beach and Germany were able to get back up to land. They notified the person who rented the ATV about the crash.
Then, that person went down to the crash scene and extricated the Paso Robles woman from the vehicle.
Immediately, emergency crews responded to the crash and pronounced the Paso Robles woman dead at the scene.
Moreover, police arrested Arayza on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Also, she faces charges including gross vehicular manslaughter.
Arayza injuries were moderate while the other two surviving passengers’ injuries were minor.
Additionally, CHP said everyone was wearing a seatbelt during the accident. However, none of them were wearing helmets.
