Pedestrian in Wheelchair Hit, Injured by Car in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (February 3, 2020) — A man in a wheelchair sustained injuries in Thursday’s pedestrian crash at North Marks Avenue and West Sussex Way.
According to police, the incident unfolded at approximately 4:00 p.m. Per investigations, officers learned that the 90-year-old began crossing North Marks Avenue from the west to east while the driver attempted a left turn from Sussex Way onto southbound Marks Avenue.
Unfortunately, the car struck the elder, causing him critical injuries.
Paramedics transported the patient to Community Regional Medical Center while the unidentified driver stayed and cooperated with police investigators.
Although the pedestrian did not use a crosswalk seconds before the accident, pedestrians can cross the area legally.
Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a contributing factor in the accident; however, an investigation continues.
