Fatal Crash Causes Power Outage in Hanford
HANFORD, CA (August 6, 2019) – A man was killed following a two-vehicle crash at Jackson Avenue Tuesday afternoon, just south of Hanford.
The crash happened around 2:28 p.m. near the intersection of Jackson Avenue and 10th Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 1995 Chevrolet Astro van was traveling west on Jackson Avenue when it blew through a stop sign, striking a northbound Chevrolet pickup truck on 10th Avenue.
The impact sent both vehicles into the shoulder of the road, and the Chevrolet pickup struck a power pole, causing a power outage in the area.
Arriving units rushed the Chevrolet van driver to a nearby hospital, where the man succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
The 47-year-old driver of the pickup was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Approximately 213 customers are without electricity. PG&E crews are on the scene working to restore power.
The crash remains under investigation.
