21-year-old Man Killed, Another Injured in Crash on 15 Freeway and Gopher Canyon Road [Escondido, CA]

1 Dead and 1 Injured in Escondido Auto Accident on 15 Freeway

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (September 17, 2020) – Early Tuesday, a man died, while another suffered injuries in a crash on the 15 Freeway and Gopher Canyon Road.
 
The 21-year-old male driver from San Jacinto and his 21-year-old passenger traveled in a northbound Lexus ES 350. However, due to speeding, their vehicle steered off the freeway, south of Gopher Canyon Road just after 12:30 a.m.
 
Then, the sedan went across a dirt-and-asphalt center median. Afterward, the vehicle fell into a brushy embankment and hit a wire guardrail at the top of the slope.
 
CHP public-affairs Officer Mark Latulippe added that the vehicle overturned and rolled multiple times. Eventually, the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
 
Medical responders transported both men to Palomar Medical Center. Unfortunately, the driver was later declared dead at the hospital. Meanwhile, his passenger, of Perris, suffered severe injuries. Their identities remain unreleased at this time.
 
According to authorities, both men didn’t wear a seat belt during the Escondido crash. Latulippe said that intoxication may be a factor in the crash.
