Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 94 in Lemon Grove
LEMON GROVE, CA (September 18, 2019) – A man was killed after being struck by several cars Wednesday evening.
The crash happened around 8:45 p.m. on Highway 94 near College Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking across the highway when a 2010 Nissan Altima struck him. The man was then struck by about four or five more vehicles.
As a result, the unidentified victim suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The Altima’s driver, a 27-year-old woman, told officers that the pedestrian walked directly into the path of her vehicle. When she saw the man, she swerved to the left however, was unable to avoid him.
It was unclear why the man was on the freeway. The Medical Examiner’s Office would determine if the pedestrian was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.
The driver of the Altima was not under the influence, CHP said.
The crash caused delays as all eastbound traffic was diverted to College Avenue during the investigation.
