Pedestrian Fatally Hit by Driver in Imperial Beach
IMPERIAL BEACH, CA (January 13, 2020) — A man believed to be in his 70s died Friday following a pedestrian accident on 9th Street near Ebony Avenue.
Authorities are investigating the cause and details of this fatal crash that claimed the life of a man.
According to San Diego sheriff’s Sgt. Joe Barry, an 84-year-old driver, traveling northbound on 9th Street, struck a pedestrian near Ebony Avenue around 12:10 p.m.
Reports say there is no crosswalk at the three-way T intersection, as well as no stop sign or traffic light at Ebony Avenue for drivers traveling on 9th Street. The Pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk in the area.
In the wake of the accident, paramedics took the unidentified victim to a hospital in grave condition. Due to the severity of his injuries, he died at the hospital. Meanwhile, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police investigators.
Deputies have, thus far, ruled out impairment as a contributing factor; however, they plan to dive deeper into the examination of what had transpired moments before.
