Man in Motorized Wheelchair Hit, Killed by Driver in Phoenix
PHOENIX, AZ (November 14, 2019)—A man in a motorized wheelchair died Tuesday after being struck by a vehicle on East Broadway Road near South 8th Street.
According to Phoenix Police, the 63-year-old man in the motorized wheelchair was crossing mid-block when a Ford Crown Victoria struck him around 6:15 p.m.
Due to his severe injuries, the pedestrian died shortly after. The 25-year old Ford driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with police, who ruled out impairment as a possible cause of the crash.
As a result of the accident, officials shut down Broadway Road in both directions while investigations took place.
Information surrounding where the fault lies is unclear; however, officials plan to investigate the matter further.
