According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash took place around 8:58 p.m. near the Napa Premium Outlets shopping center.
A 2001 GMC, driven by a 51-year-old man from Concord, tried avoiding the 25-year-old pedestrian but ended up hitting him.
As a result of the accident, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries while the driver sustained minor injuries.
It is unclear at this point why the pedestrian walked into the highway lane after walking on the eastbound shoulder. Thus far, authorities have determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the accident.
