Pedestrian Jumps Off Bridge on Highway 163 and Fatally Struck by Car near Balboa Park
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 5, 2019) – A man was found dead Tuesday morning on Highway 163 near Balboa Park.
Dispatchers received multiple calls shortly before 5:25 a.m. from people who reported that a male pedestrian was down in the left lane of northbound Highway 163 near the Laurel Street bridge, CHP officials said.
A camera in the area captured video of the man jumping off the bridge, according to police. The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was fatally struck by a vehicle a few minutes later.
The incident prompted a traffic alert that lasted about six hours and snarled the morning commute on several freeways.
Further investigation of this incident is underway.
