Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Tow-Truck Collision
WALNUT CREEK, CA (June 24, 2019) – A male pedestrian was fatally struck by a tow-truck on the 680 Freeway, near Treat Boulevard Saturday morning.
According to reports, the deadly incident occurred around 1 a.m., near Treat Boulevard and Main Street. Dispatchers arrived to the area on 680 Freeway shortly after.
CHP officers say the driver struck the pedestrian in the northbound lanes of the freeway. The man was later pronounced dead on scene due to the impact of the collision.
Furthermore, the tow-truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials. Officers determined that impairment did not play a role on the tow-truck driver’s part; however, whether the victim had been impaired at the time is still currently unknown.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked to clear the wreckage. However, the roadway has since reopened.
