High-Speed Crash Kills 23-Year-Old Man, Injures 5-Year-Old Child in Kiowa and Bear Valley Roads Crash

Apple Valley, CA (November 27, 2020) – On Tuesday night, a man was killed and a child was injured in a crash on Kiowa and Bear Valley Roads.

The tragic incident happened on November 24 at about 10:51 PM. A 23-year-old man driving a white 2004 Ford Mustang reportedly committed several code violations on Kiowa Road and Bear Valley Road. This led the Victor Valley Station deputies to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Officials reported that the driver failed to yield and then continued driving at a high rate of speed as the deputies chased him. As a result, the pursuit lasted approximately three miles, officials said.

“The driver drove east on Bear Valley Road into oncoming lanes of traffic before turning around and driving west on Bear Valley Road. The driver continued north on Kiowa Road and failed to stop at multiple posted stop signs and driving at speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour,” stated a sheriff’s news release.

Then, in the area of Kiowa Road and Ottawa Road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with some trees in the front yard of the residence. When deputies arrived at the incident scene, they found the suspect trapped in the vehicle with major injuries including the 5-year-old child.

Deputies freed the suspect from the wreckage of the crash and performed immediate medical treatment to both the suspect and the child. Moreover, Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response personnel also helped in the medical treatment. However, due to the impact of the crash, the suspect died at the scene.

Meanwhile, an air ambulance airlifted the child to the Loma Linda University Medical Center for further treatment.

Furthermore, the investigation remained on-going. Officials closed the Kiowa Road south of Powhatan Road and north of Ottawa Road for several hours.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Deputy A. Hylin at the Victorville Sheriff’s Station.
