Man Dies in San Diego Scooter Crash on Ocean Front Walk
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 25, 2019) – A man tragically died in a scooter crash on Ocean Front Walk near Santa Barbara Place Sunday afternoon.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the 1:35 p.m. accident unfolded in the 3300 block of Ocean Front Walk.
A 48-year-old man and 22-year old woman—both riding Lime electric scooters—collided under unknown circumstances when both lost control. Reports say both riders were coasting adjacent to one another before they collided and flew off their respective scooters.
Per authorities, neither the man nor the woman wore a helmet at the time.
While the woman suffered abrasions to her lower legs, the man sustained scrapes on his lower legs and complained of pain to his chest; however, despite medical efforts, the male victim succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Investigators have ruled out impairment as a possible factor, but speed has yet to be investigated further.
