Man Dies, Akop Daniyelyan Arrested in Glendale Pedestrian Accident
Glendale, CA (September 19, 2020) – On Thursday, a man in his 60’s died, while police arrested 32-year-old Akop Daniyelyan of Los Angeles and 27-year-old Alejandro Garcia, also of Los Angeles, in a pedestrian accident near Brand Boulevard and Maple Street.
Sgt. Christian Hauptmann of the Glendale Police Department said the fatal accident occurred about 8 p.m. in Glendale.
Apparently, Daniyelyan was driving at a fast speed and attempted to pass a slower vehicle in front of him. As he passed the slower driver, he struck another fast-traveling vehicle which was driven by Garcia.
Both the two drivers lost control of their vehicles. They both struck an unoccupied parked truck and a tree before striking the pedestrian.
“Both drivers exited their vehicles and an altercation ensued, during which Daniyelyan allegedly punched Garcia in the face,” he said.
Unfortunately, the pedestrian died at the hospital. Police withheld the victim’s identity.
Officers evaluated the drivers. Authorities found Daniyelyan found to be impaired and was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, and reckless driving causing bodily injury.
Furthermore, jail records indicate that Daniyelyan remained behind bars since arrested about 11:15 p.m. Thursday night. It was not immediately clear when he would appear in court.
Meanwhile, authorities booked Garcia on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving causing bodily injury. He was later released from custody.
