Pedestrian Hit and Killed by Car after Darting onto 101 Freeway
HOLLYWOOD, CA (July 14, 2019) – A man lost his life in a pedestrian crash on 101 Freeway, Sunday evening. Authorities withheld the identity of the victim, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Highland Avenue, at about 8:30 PM. Due to unknown reasons, the pedestrian was walking along the center median when he ran into the northbound no.1 lane. There, an oncoming Toyota Prius hit him.
Emergency responders pronounced the unidentified pedestrian dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the 34-year-old woman driving the Prius remained and cooperated with investigators.
Officers temporarily shut down all northbound lanes for an investigation and clearing operations. The Sig Alert remained in effect until 12:15 AM the next day.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators encourage witnesses to cooperate as soon as possible. Authorities will release additional information once it becomes available.
