Lupe Ortiz Identified By Coroner As Victim of Highway 99 Car Accident
Chico, CA (June 11, 2020) – On Wednesday, Lupe Ortiz of Los Molinos died in crash involving a big rig and multiple vehicles on Highway 99.
As a result of the crash, the highway closed in both directions for the majority of Wednesday, and the morning of Thursday.
After the investigation and cleanup, CHP reported that the driver of the semi, Jobanjit Singh, failed to slow down at approaching stopped traffic.
As a result, Singh caused the collision on the northbound lanes of Highway 99.
Furthermore, he crashed into a Honda Accord, which caused a chain reaction, and a total of 6 vehicles collided.
Consequently, the driver and passenger of the Honda Accord died on impact.
More of the aftermath included 3 cars with heavy damage sustained, two of them positioned in the intersection.
A third vehicle ended up in the median between the southbound and northbound lanes of Highway 99.
Moreover, a pickup truck also rested directly in front of Neal Road, with damage on the rear bumper. The fifth car, a minivan, rested along the shoulder northbound of Highway 99.
The Butte County Coroner’s Office later identified the victims as Lupe Ortiz and David Sims.
While alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the incident, CHP is still investigating the accident and Mr. Signh further.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends and community of Lupe Ortiz and David Sims.
