Luis Ortiz Booked Into Jail, 5 Injured in Santa Ana Car Accident
SANTA ANA, CA (February 28, 2019) – Five people were injured after a police pursuit ended in a major-injury collision at Westminster Avenue and Euclid Street Wednesday morning.
The accident happened around 4:10 a.m. when officers tried pulling over a Honda Civic for unspecified code violations. After that, Luis Enrique Ortiz failed to stop and a pursuit began on 17th Street toward Garden Grove.
Ortiz drove through a red light at Westminster Avenue and Euclid Street, colliding with a Toyota SUV.
A woman in her 40s was driving the Toyota. She suffered multiple broken bones and a head trauma. She was transfer to an intensive care unit in critical condition.
In addition to Ortiz, two men and a female in Ortiz’s vehicle were also injured.
The 31-year-old Whittier man was hospitalized as a trauma patient.
After being released from the hospital, Ortiz was set to be booked into jail for violation of evading causing injury and other unknown charges. At the scene, investigators uncovered drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle, per a Santa Ana police report.
The crash remains under investigation.
