MERCED, CA (July 26, 2023) – Monday night, authorities arrested Luis Diego Diaz Romero following a fatal hit-and-run crash near Buhach Road and Highway 140.

The incident happened at around 10:00 p.m. near the intersection of Buhach Road and Highway 140.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an eastbound Yahama motorcycle collided with a Nissan Sentra that was attempting to make a left turn onto southbound Buhach Road.

Then, the force of the crash ejected the motorcyclist into the roadway, while the Nissan driver fled the scene on foot without stopping to provide aid. Moments later, a westbound Ford Mustang struck the motorcyclist who was already down in the roadway.

Moreover, officers confirmed that the motorcyclist died in the crash.

Furthermore, officers managed to locate and arrest the hit-and-run driver, 24-year-old Diaz Romero of Atwater, at his residence. CHP said that the suspect will face charges for Felony Hit and Run and Vehicular Manslaughter.
