[UPDATE] Highway 101 DUI Crash in Santa Rosa Injures Lourdes Velasquez, Augustin Delariva Arrested
Santa Rosa, CA (April 14, 2021) – On Saturday, 57-year-old Redwood City resident Lourdes Velasquez and others were injured in a DUI multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101.
The crash happened at about 4:08 p.m. on the northbound side of the highway past Golf Course Drive.
Heavy traffic brought vehicles to a stop, but a Chevy Silverado driver failed to slow down and crashed into a Toyota Corolla at high speed.
As a result, the Toyota was pushed forward and struck the Mazda 3 in front of it.
Afterward, the Chevy driver, 29-year-old Santa Rosa resident Augustin Delariva, left the freeway. He continued driving and stopped at the off-ramp for Santa Rosa Avenue, where the CHP officers arrested him.
Authorities charged him with suspicion of felony DUI, felony hit and run, and misdemeanors related to a previous DUI conviction.
Unfortunately, drivers and passengers in the cars involved in this accident suffered injuries.
Velasquez was one of four passengers in the Toyota. She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. However, she was transported over the weekend to Stanford Hospital. There is no update on her condition.
Moreover, the Toyota’s driver, 38-year-old Carmichael resident Katya Herrera, was taken to Kaiser with moderate injuries.
Her three other passengers, Ivone Palencia, Manuel Palencia, and Cindy Lagos, all from Redwood City, sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries.
Furthermore, 39-year-old Santa Rosa resident Israel Delgado was the Mazda driver. He incurred minor injuries.
Meanwhile, officers held Delariva in the Sonoma County Jail Tuesday on $100,000 bail.
This is an important reminder to never drink and drive.
