Driver Dead Following Six-Car Pileup in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (January 14, 2019) – A six-car pileup Saturday morning on Highway 101 near Barham Boulevard claimed a person’s life and left several others with injuries.
The six-car pileup unfolded at approximately 5:15 a.m. and caused California Highway Patrol officers to temporarily shut down one lane of the southbound lanes due to the fatal victim.
Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were hospitalized.
The 21-year-old motorist who was killed reportedly hydroplaned in his car due to slick and wet roadways at the time and crashed his 2000 Acura sedan at an unknown speed in the No. 3 lane before hitting the concrete center divider. The South El Monte resident was ejected upon impact and landed within the center median of the southbound lanes.
CHP officers said the man was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics at 5:38 a.m.
An investigation of this crash is underway.
