Pedestrian Hit, Killed by Driver in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (February 20, 2019) – A pedestrian was killed Monday night after being hit by a motorist on Pacific Avenue at West Burnett Street.
The Long Beach Police Department said the incident happened around 8:45 p.m. The victim was described as a 63-year-old male local who was walking eastbound in a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a southbound driver. The driver operating the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 immediately stopped and contacted 911.
Officers arrived and performed CPR on the Long Beach man before they transported him to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Officials do not believe the 41-year-old Long Beach man operating the Mercedes was under the influence of drugs or alcohol; however, a follow-up investigation of this case is underway. Witnesses are encouraged to call Detective Steve Fox 562-570-7110.
