Sierra Valley DUI Crash Injures Leonard Leavitt, William Barnard Arrested

Sierra Valley, CA (July 29, 2021) – On July 25, 69-year-old Leonard Leavitt of Maclean, VA, was injured, and police arrested 22-year-old William Barnard of Reno, NV, in a DUI crash on State Route 70. The accident took place at approximately 12:38 a.m., east of Maddalena Road. Barnard was driving a 2007 Toyota 4-Runner eastbound on the freeway . Investigating officers said that due to his level of intoxication, he fell asleep and his Toyota 4-Runner swerved into the westbound lane directly into the path of Leavitt, driving a 2021 Audi with four passengers. As a result, Barnard’s eastbound Toyota crashed with Leavitt’s Audi in the westbound lane. The Toyota overturned several times and rested on its wheels on the north shoulder of Highway 70. Then, the Audi rested on its wheels on the south shoulder of the highway. Moreover, rescuers extricated multiple Audi occupants due to extensive damage to the passenger compartment. Emergency responders took all Audi occupants to Renown Medical Center with moderate injuries. Meanwhile, the authorities arrested Barnard for DUI and then transported to Renown with major injuries. Being a responsible driver means not drinking and driving at the same time.
