Deadly Vehicle Collision Near Stoneridge Drive Under Investigation
Pleasanton, CA (May 8, 2024) – Rincy George, her husband, Tarun George, and two kids, Aaron George, 9, and Rowan George, 13, all from Pleasanton, were killed in a Foothill Road collision Wednesday night.
The fatal collision happened at approximately 9 p.m. on April 24 near Stoneridge Drive.
Investigating officers said the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with a pole and a large oak tree. As a result, the vehicle was engulfed in fire that spread to nearby vegetation.
Investigating officers stated that despite efforts to render first aid to one of the children, all four family members lost their lives at the scene.
Moreover, investigation determined that the vehicle, a VinFast VF8, the family was riding when the collision happened belonged to a coworker.
Before the collision happened, the vehicle experienced mechanical issues wherein the steering wheel automatically turned to the right direction. It happened when the lane assist was turned on and would automatically move the steering wheel.
During the investigation, there was a complaint that the steering failure recurred. The complaint was filed on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website five days after the collision that killed the family of four.
Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website lists one recall and nine complaints for the 2023 VinFast VF8.
The authorities are still investigating this fatal collision and stated that alcohol or foul play were not involved. Speed, however, may have played a role.
