Latoya Fernandez Fatally Hits Pedestrian on Highway 99 Near Avenue 76
EARLIMART, CA (March 14, 2019) – A Wednesday morning pedestrian accident on Highway 99 near Avenue 76 turned deadly.
Just after midnight, the Fresno Communication Center responded to a call about a traffic collision.
After receiving the call, the California Highway Patrol’s Visalia Area Office arrived at the scene. Crews found a 2015 Honda driven by a woman, as well as a seriously injured man around 12:02 a.m.
Inferring from the investigation, CHP learned that the Honda struck the pedestrian as he began crossing in an easterly direction. Yet, in an attempt to avoid striking the man, 41-year-old Latoya Fernandez of Clovis tried applying her brakes. However, the Honda ended up striking the man.
Fernandez did not suffer any injuries, but the 59-year-old man from Pixley died at the scene.
Investigators are determining the ultimate cause of this deadly case.
