MODESTO, CA (February 14, 2019) – A 64-year-old man was killed Wednesday night in a DUI related two-car accident on Claribel Road near Langworth Road.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. east of Langworth Road. The California Highway Patrol said 56-year-old Larry D. Boyd was driving a 1982 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on Claribel Road, approaching a disabled 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was partially blocking the lane.
Travis Chamberlain, 23, of Portola was the driver of the Ford truck and had his flashing hazards lights turned on to ward off oncoming vehicles; however, Boyd failed to notice the truck and struck the vehicle, sending his Chevrolet Silverado into a northern ditch.
Boyd’s 64-year-old passenger from Salida was transported to Memorial Medical Center, where he died. Boyd suffered moderate injuries and was treated at Doctors Medical Center and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
