Woman Killed, Children Hurt After Being Hit by Hit-and-Run Driver in La Mirada
LA MIRADA, CA (February 21, 2019) – A grandmother was killed when she and two children were struck by a hit-and-run motorist Wednesday afternoon in the 14800 block of Escalona Road near Rosecrans Avenue.
Sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader said the incident happened around 1:25 p.m., several blocks from Escalona Elementary School.
The woman was walking with her grandchildren in the east side gutter of the road, which is devoid of a sidewalk. As the trio was walking, they were struck by a vehicle that was heading in the same direction.
The unidentified woman was transported to a hospital in critical condition and died shortly after. The children were also hospitalized yet with minor injuries.
As of now, the suspect has not been identified but has been described as a male. The vehicle authorities are searching for was described as a dark gray four-door 2015 to 2017 Toyota Camry. The Toyota may have sustained front and right-side damage, according to news reports.
