Kenny Robbins Dies, Jacob Johnson Hospitalized in Collision With Semi-Truck on Highway 166 Near Basic School Road

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 23, 2019) – A two-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck along Highway 166 near Basic School Road left a 47-year-old man dead.
 
The crash happened around 4:45 a.m. According to California Highway Patrol, 47-year-old Kenny Robbins plowed into the trailer of a big rig that was blocking all lanes of Highway 166. Robbins, of Maricopa, died on impact while his 25-year-old passenger, Jacob Johnson of Taft, was brought to KMC with minor to moderate injuries.
 
News reports say that about 20 minutes prior to the incident, the semi-truck driver was heading westbound, making a legal U-turn. One of the air hoses of the trailer disconnected, causing the trailer to lock its brakes, which happens as a safety precaution. The trailer was reportedly blocking all lanes of traffic, prompting the driver to put out cones and reflective triangles to deflect traffic to the shoulder. It was at this time when the pickup truck heading eastbound failed to see the semi-trailer and crashed into the semi-truck.
 
CHP believes the driver of the big rig did not make any moving violations. Commercial vehicle experts were dispatched to the scene to determine why the airline became disconnected.
