Kayla Vallez Dead in Mono County Car Crash
MONO COUNTY, CA (November 6, 2019) – A 19-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 395.
Authorities found the wreckage just before 11:00 a.m. on November 3 on Tioga Pass. However, the exact date and time of the collision are still unknown.
The CHP said that Kayla Vallez from Stockton died after her vehicle went down an embankment. Vallez traveled west on the pass in a 1997 Honda Accord. However, for unidentified reasons, Kayla Vallez drove off the road and down the embankment, overturning multiple times. Vallez solely occupied the car and she reportedly wore a seatbelt.
According to the CHP, another vehicle driver stopped at a scenic overlook on the south shoulder of the pass, about six miles west of U.S. 395 and noticed the car around 400 feet down the embankment.
CHP Bridgeport, Mono County Sheriff’s Office and Mono County Search and Rescue (SAR) all came to the scene. Authorities pronounced Kayla Vallezdead at the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the crash.
