28-Year-Old Katherine Stephens Injured in Lewis River Road Collision [Cowlitz County, WA]

Cowlitz County, WA (May 25, 2024) – Katherine Stephens, 28, of Ridgefield, and Alvaro Lujano Madrigal, 26, of Vancouver, were injured in a Lewis River Road collision Thursday afternoon.

It was about 4 p.m. when the three-vehicle collision happened near Little Kalama River Road, west of the Lewis River Golf Course.

WSP officers said Stephens was traveling south on Lewis River Road in a 2017 Ford Fiesta. Following her closely was Frederick Hudgin, 75, of Ariel, in a 2006 Ford Escape.

Stephens slowed to turn left onto a side street near Milepost 49 and was rear-ended by Hudgin.

Stephens was pushed into oncoming traffic and crashed on a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by Lujano Madrigal.

The medical team rushed Lujano Madrigal and Stephens to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in unknown condition. Stephens was wearing a seat belt while Lujano Madrigal wasn’t.

Hudgin, on the other hand, was not injured in the collision. Hudgin was wearing a seat belt.

Officers said drugs and alcohol were not factors, but Hudgin could still face charges.
