Karen Rupright Dies in Collision With Bus on East University Drive Near North Higley Road
MESA, AZ (January 30, 2020) — A woman died on January 22 following a head-on collision with a bus on East University Drive near North Higley Road.
According to police, Karen Rupright died as a result of the crash. In the investigation, police learned that the 61-year-old’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the Valley Metro bus. Investigators are looking into reasons why she had crossed the center line in the first place.
Mesa fire and medical officials arrived at the scene and tended to those injured, including the bus driver whom authorities transported to Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. Additionally, several bus passengers were treated at the scene.
In the wake of the accident, officials closed University Drive between Greenfield and Higley roads while authorities investigated.
