Judy Appel and Alison Bernstein Hospitalized After Being Struck by Car at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Stuart Street
BERKELEY, CA (January 8, 2019) – An early Saturday pedestrian collision at Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Stuart Street left two women hospitalized.
A Berkeley Unified School District statement confirmed the injured victims as 53-year-old Judy Appel and her wife 54-year-old Alison Bernstein.
The incident happened just after midnight when both women were crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Way and were hit by a northbound car driven by an 81-year-old Berkeley resident. The driver stayed at the scene and was questioned by officers.
As of Sunday, Appel, president of the Berkeley Unified School District board, and Bernstein were reportedly still recovering in the Intensive Care Unit.
Authorities are investigating this crash further.
