One Dead and One Injured in 2-Vehicle DUI Crash near Windsor
SONOMA, CA (October 30, 2018) – Early Tuesday evening, one man was killed and another was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Old Redwood Highway. The deceased victim has not yet been identified, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal collision took place just around 5:45 PM, just south of Limerick Lane outside of Windsor.
26-year-old Josmar Ortiz of Windsor was driving a Volkswagen Beetle southbound when he crossed the double-yellow lines into northbound traffic and crashed into a Volkswagen Passat.
Fire personnel extricated the driver of the Passat before rushing him to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the driver died while en route to the hospital. The passenger in the VW Passat suffered minor injuries, but his current condition is unknown.
Per CHP reports, Ortiz was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence after field sobriety tests showed he was above the legal blood-alcohol level of .08 percent. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
No further details have been disclosed at this time, as the investigation continues.
