LANCASTER, CA (June 21, 2023) – Monday night, authorities arrested Joshua Lawson after a fatal DUI crash on 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road.

The incident happened at around 8:40 p.m. on 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road.

According to reports, a 2022 Honda Civic headed north in the center median. Reports said that 36-year-old Honda driver, Lawson, of Lancaster, skirted other vehicles by veering in the center median. Then, he came upon a disabled 2006 Honda Accord with three occupants stopped in the center median.

“Lawson, driving at an unsafe speed in the center median attempting to pass slower traffic, came upon the disabled 2006 Honda. The front of Lawson’s 2022 Honda collided into the rear of (Party 2’s) 2006 Honda,” the CHP report said.

As a result of the crash, the 2006 Honda’s rear passenger, a Lancaster man in his 60s, succumbed to injuries at the scene. However, his identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Moreover, the authorities issued a SigAlert that shut down all northbound lanes of the 14 Freeway. Then, the lanes reopened by 2:00 a.m., Tuesday.
