Injuries Reported in Los Olivos Head-On Accident on Highway 154 and Foxen Canyon Road

LOS OLIVOS, CA (February 3, 2022) – Wednesday night, Joseph Person and another person suffered injuries in a head-on crash on Highway 154.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 154 west of Foxen Canyon Road, said fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli.

The California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash.

According to reports, a Lompoc resident driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix drove west on Highway 154 “at a suspected high rate of speed.” Then, it veered into the opposing lane.

The Grand Prix crashed into Joseph Person of Santa Barbara driving a 2019 Honda Civic. Both vehicles suffered major damage. Also, one of them ended up in a ditch.

The two drivers sustained major injuries, Bertucelli added.

A CalStar medical helicopter and a Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit helicopter responded to airlift the patients to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Also, the incident shut down both lanes of Highway 154 in the area for a time.

Santa Barbara County sheriff’s deputies also came to the scene to help.

At this time, the CHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash. Also, it remains unclear whether alcohol played a role in the crash.

The authorities urged anyone with information about the crash to call the CHP’s Buellton office at 805.688.5551.

When behind the wheel of a vehicle, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of yourself and others around you. Moreover, it is important to always drive within the posted speed limit. Also, slow down if you see traffic stalling ahead to avoid hitting other vehicles.
