Joseph Berardino Hit, Killed by Car Following Collision on 5 Freeway Near Clairemont Drive
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 7, 2019) – A 48-year-old man was killed early Sunday after being struck by a vehicle just moments after he crashed his car on the 5 Freeway near Clairemont Drive.
The incident happened around 5:50 a.m. when Joseph Vito Berardino lost control and struck the center divider after heading northbound on the 5 Freeway. It appears Berardino exited his car and was hit by a vehicle, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Joseph Aboy said. Two cars reportedly struck his car before one of them struck him to the ground.
When paramedics arrived, they pronounced him dead at the scene.
CHP officers have confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the collision.
