Jose Pena Hospitalized in Deadly Highway 43 Accident Near Schuster Road
WASCO, CA (July 19, 2019) – One person died during Wednesday night’s head-on collision on Highway 43 near Schuster Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck and a sedan collided around 9:29 p.m.
As a result of the accident, the semi-truck driver later identified as 66-year-old Jose Pena, of Armona, suffered minor injuries. Unfortunately, the sedan driver died at the scene.
The impact reportedly caused the sedan to rupture into flames and the semi-truck to spill tomatoes onto the highway. Both directions of the highway required closure due to an investigation.
Still, it is unclear at this point what led to the accident; however, witnesses testified that the sedan driver had been driving recklessly before the collision.
Authorities are investigating this head-on crash further to determine the liabilities and circumstances.
We would like to take this moment to send our heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
