Injuries Reported in Santa Barbara Traffic Accident on Islay and State Street
SANTA BARBARA, CA (May 17, 2021) – Saturday afternoon, authorities arrested Jose Munoz after a police chase ended in a crash on Islay Street.
According to Santa Barbara Police Department, the incident started at around 12:20 p.m. An officer started to follow a vehicle reported missing recently. Then, they spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Micheltorena and San Andres streets.
However, the suspect vehicle, a silver Honda, started speeding up. Thus, the officer turned on the patrol vehicle’s lights to initiate a traffic stop. The officer kept his distance from the vehicle for safety reasons. Meanwhile, the suspect vehicle ran multiple stop signs as it fled.
Moreover, a southbound bus struck the suspect vehicle at the intersection at Islay and State streets.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that six people from the bus sustained minor injuries. Responders transported two of them to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Meanwhile, two people from the suspect vehicle suffered serious injuries.
Also, responders transported 24-year-old Jose Munoz, the driver of the stolen vehicle, and one passenger to Cottage Hospital. Both of them sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Also, the authorities released a juvenile to a guardian.
Officials arrested Munoz for multiple charges, including evading police, DUI, and possessing a stolen vehicle.
