John Gabbard Killed in Accident Near Sandalwood Drive
El Cajon, CA (December 30, 2021) – On Tuesday, 56-year-old John Gabbard lost his life in a hit-and-run crash on Ballantyne Street.
The authorities responded to the crash scene a few minutes past 5:55 a.m. near Sandalwood Drive, between Broadway and the Interstate 8 underpass.
When they arrived, they found Gabbard unconscious with major head trauma.
The rescue team rushed Gabbard to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego with life-threatening injuries, where he died at 11:45 a.m.
Investigators said a dark-colored truck headed to the freeway struck Gabbard he was crossing Ballantyne Street.
The truck driver immediately fled the scene after the collision.
