Kimberly Mondragon and Kyi Thomas Injured in Jamestown DUI Crash
JAMESTOWN, CA (December 7, 2019) – A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a traffic collision Saturday night in Jamestown.
The crash happened around 6:00 pm. on Highway 49 at 5th Avenue.
According to the CHP, 68-year-old John William Birdsong of La Grange was driving a 1990 Nissan Pathfinder south on Highway 49 at approximately 50 mph.
At the same time, 27-year-old George Hernandez-Mejia of Pittsburg was stopped at the red traffic signal on the highway. He was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Express van with six occupants inside.
Due to Birdsong’s unsafe speed with stopped traffic ahead of him, he was unable to stop in time before the front of his vehicle crashed into the rear of the van.
After the crash, Birdsong’s vehicle continued traveling off the north shoulder of the highway and down an embankment.
Paramedics transported two occupants of the van, 20-year-old Kimberly Mondragon of East Adelanto and 26-year-old Kyi Thomas of Sacramento, to Adventist Health Sonora for treatment of minor injuries.
Meanwhile, police arrested Birdsong on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and booked him into Tuolumbe County Jail.
Further investigation is underway.
