Jesus Echeverria Dead, Deshon Mayo Detained Following Bicycle-Vehicle Crash at North Fresno Street and East Bullard Avenue
FRESNO, CA (January 10, 2020)—A bicyclist lost his life Wednesday morning when a DUI driver struck him at North Fresno Street and East Bullard Avenue.
According to officers, 47-year-old Deshon Mayo was approaching the intersection around 1 a.m. before he struck 39-year-old Jesus Echeverria.
Police further noted that Mayo continued traveling down the road before being stopped by a responding officer.
Per details, Mayo informed the officer that a group of bicyclists tried threatening him as he tried to help the victim; however, police found no corroboration to support his account.
Paramedics brought the gravely injured Echeverria to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Sometime later, police arrested Mayo for DUI and hit-and-run and booked him into the Fresno County jail.
